? We are aware of two separate incidences where law enforcement was called by students who indicated they were suicidal and needed help - the authorities arrived to find each young man with a gun in one hand and the YR "Ask4Help" card in the other. Both got treatment and thier lives were saved!
* ?I want to tell you, you saved a child.? - from a grateful mom
? ?The person that lady was talking about sounds just like me.? - a young girl at a presentation
? ?I am 13 and wishing I could die. I hate life. I need to use my Yellow Ribbon! Help me.? - recieved at our office after a presentation
? ??the sponsors of this group came to our school and I was touched. ?I have gotten myself a counselor. I just wanted to thank all of you.? - from a young man after a presentation
? ?I knew my son was having trouble?I picked up a Yellow Ribbon brochure at Subway and took it home to my 12-year-old son?I told him to read it, and that he didn?t have to talk to me, but just to read it. He came back to me and told me he needed help?now he is in a treatment program and things are still rocky for him, but he is getting help, so thank you!? - from a grateful parent
? ?The efforts of Yellow Ribbon have helped me to become a different person. Even though I have been volunteering for YR for a short period of time, I had some of my own issues to deal with. Thanks to the information available at a YR presentation, and the persuasion of my new friends, I took a screening and sought counseling for depression. Thank you, Yellow Ribbon, for making a difference in my life! I am more energized to make a difference in the lives of others because of what I have experienced. - A father and grandpa
. One of the boys that I recently did a screening on is very lucky to be alive. I received a phone call from his mother (after the community presentation). She was concerned about his grades dropping. I started asking questions about behavior changes, changes in sleeping pattern, eating patterns. I asked mom if he had seemed withdrawn lately and then I asked if she thought he may be depressed. She said maybe. I asked who the boy's friends were and she told me two of the friends names. It just so happened that one of his friends had filled out the survey stating that he wanted to
talk to someone. I had not yet been able to make contact with him and so after I got off the phone with the mom I called her son's friend into my office. Sure enough, things were connecting. The friend said that about a
month ago this young man had come to him and told him that he had tried to commit suicide by hanging himself in the basement. Next I pulled the young man into my office. He was very quiet but he did answer my questions. I did the depression screening with him and he answered 13 yes which means a further referral. The most scary thing was that just two days prior he had
again thought about killing himself. I contacted the parents and he is now getting help. - From a school counselor after Yellow Ribbon presentations
. A 16 year old in our community where full implementation of Yellow Ribbon has been implemented asked her friend if he would help her get a gun because she wanted to kill herself. The boy persuaded her to come with him and talk with their school counselor. They then called the girl's Mom and an emergency appointment was made with their family doctor. The girl was willing to seek help and promise that she would not act. - From the school counselor
* "I have suffered with these symptoms for years, but after your presentation, I finally felt empowered to go get help for my depression. Thank you." - A teacher
* "I'm glad to see such a push for the Yellow Ribbon program in the schools. I dealt with depression 4 years ago and am still on medication for it. I'm grateful for the doctor that helped me after 2 others told me to schedule an appointment. Thank you for reaching out to our district." - A teacher
* A student came to me after a school presentation and presented a YR Card. This student received help as well as the rest of the children in the family. They were being abused and because the YR card was presented they all recived help and were protected. The Yellow Ribbon Program is a great program to have in the schools! - A teacher
* After you came and did the presentation we received three referrals and had two youth in crisis. They were taken to the emergency room and connected to help. Your Program Works! Thanks again for all you do! - A Teacher
